Parents often ask
Can Hoot help my child with writing?
Yes, with Hoot Premium's essay coach (20 marked pieces a month for the family). Your child plans a story, a letter or an essay with Hoot, writes it (or photographs handwritten pages), and gets marks, two stars and a wish, and hints on their own words — marked against the UK Key Stage 1–4 writing standards for their year. Hoot never writes it for them: the hints say where to look, and your child finds the fix and makes a new draft. A piece written in Arabic gets its feedback in Arabic.
Which ages is Hoot for?
Children from 3 to 16. You set each child's age and grade, and Hoot pitches every lesson, answer, quiz and guide at that level.
Does it replace the teacher?
No — it helps your child understand, practise and revise what the teacher gave them, at home, from the same material.
Where is our material kept?
In your family's Hoot account, so it's there on any device you log in on. Other families never see it unless you share a subject with them. To teach and answer, Hoot sends its AI only the parts of the books it needs. The child who is studying and the notepad are remembered on the device itself.
Does it work in Arabic?
Yes. Hoot answers in the language of the material and the question, listens for Arabic in an Arabic subject, and the on-screen keyboard has Arabic letters.
What does Hoot cost?
Hoot Free costs nothing: 1 parent, 1 child and 1 subject, with each month 30 quiz questions, 5 talks with Hoot and 2 lessons. Hoot Pro is $19.99 a month or $180 a year: 2 parents, unlimited children and unlimited subjects, with each month unlimited quiz questions, unlimited talks with Hoot, unlimited lessons and 10 study guides. Hoot Premium is $59.99 a month or $431.93 a year (save 40%): everything in Pro, plus the ✍️ essay coach, unlimited study guides a month and up to 4 parents or carers. Schools can ask us about a School licence.
What is a lesson with Hoot?
Your child chooses what to learn — a whole subject, some units or books, or what they got wrong in quizzes — and Hoot plans a short path of lessons from those books. Each step is a few minutes on a chalkboard, spoken with word-by-word captions, with quick checks along the way. Your child can pause, hear it again, ask for it simpler, or raise a hand and ask a question. They carry on where they stopped, even on another device.
Is Hoot strict in lessons?
Kind but firm. Checks can't be skipped, an answer given too fast counts as a guess, and after two wrong tries Hoot explains it another way. Off-topic chat is gently turned back to the lesson. You choose Gentle, Balanced or Firm for each child, and the lesson report shows the last 7 days.
Does Hoot talk?
Yes. Hoot reads answers, quizzes and lessons aloud with the voices of your device (Microsoft Edge has free, natural-sounding ones), and lessons can also run with captions only. Children can ask by voice in Chrome and Edge.
Which files can I add?
PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel, text files and photos of pages. Old .doc and .ppt files need to be saved in the newer format first.
Can I add more than one child?
Yes, with Hoot Pro or Hoot Premium. Each child gets their own space with their own subjects, books, quizzes, lessons and progress. Hoot Free is for 1 child.
Can both parents use it?
Yes, with Hoot Pro (2 parents) or Hoot Premium (up to 4 parents or carers): invite them by email. You all see the same children and books, each with your own email and password.
Can I share a subject with another family?
Yes, free on every plan. Send a subject's books to another parent by email — as their own copy, or to work on together — or make a link anyone can open to add their own copy, handy for a class group (it can end on a day you choose, and you can turn it off any time). Only the books and what Hoot read from them are shared; your child's name, quizzes, scores, questions, stars and badges never are.
Does Hoot Pro renew by itself?
No. Hoot Pro and Hoot Premium last for the month or year you choose; you renew it yourself in My plan, and Hoot reminds you on the top bar when it is about to end. If it ends, you're simply back on Hoot Free — nothing is deleted.
